My Summer Vacation at 29

As school kids return to their classrooms after their long summer vacations they are often asked to write the “What I Did on My Summer Vacation” essay. This year they were asked to write the “How Can I help President Obama” essay. I on the other hand, I was not asked to write any kind of an essay. I just decided to write one after pondering on the many happenings of my summer of 29. I will be turning 30 soon and the thought of this milestone birthday makes me think I subconsciously filled my summer with way more activities than any sane 29 year old should be able to handle. Here is a summary of a two week section of my summer: I stopped listening to Dan Savage. He just got boring and overly opinionated.I broke up with my lover for ethical reason and feelings of guilt and infidelity to my partner. I watched more pornography then I usually do. I decided to move to Germany to live with my partner and study International Economics. I turned down an offer of no strings attached sex with an older woman. Which makes me think that I am gay instead of bi. Michael Jackson died and that seemed to be big news even at the office. I had two weeks of glee with my partner in Germany and we traveled together to Copenhagen Denmark. The ferry trip was very enjoyable. The Danish train rode on to the ferry, which took us over the Baltic Sea from Germany to Denmark. Daniel and I brought a bottle of wine, which we opened on the upper deck of the ferry while crossing the Baltic Sea. It was a beautiful sunset and one I will never forget. The sunlight was soft and it kissed our skin in the cool air. On the first weekend of my return from Europe, my college roommate and his girlfriend came to visit me for the weekend. I gave them a tour of some of the best wineries in Napa Valley and we spent Saturday and Sunday in San Francisco. The following weekend my brother came to visit me in Napa. We again went to San Francisco and returned to Napa for some light wine tasting. I should not forget to mention that before picking up my brother on Thursday night, I spent the night with my lover in his apartment in San Francisco. I took a canoe trip down the Russian River with my lover. This was only a Saturday and Sunday event on a three-day Labor Day weekend. On Sunday when I arrived in my apartment I got a phone call from my sister. She was coming to spend the night in my apartment with her husband and two kids in tow. The following week I went to LA for a work conference. I only worked one day this week. This summer I also walked on the beach, climbed Mt Hood, ran a ½ marathon in 1 hour and 38 minutes and went skinny-dipping in Germany. And that is what I did on my summer vacation. I hope they only get better and better.
